  1. DALL-E is an online AI created by OpenAI that can create artbased on a certain text prompt (e.g. “monkey throwing hammer at chicken”). This comic features a fictional AI, DALLE-2, that does the same thing.

Some executives suggest a bunch of images that would be useful in real life. The real DALL-E would be unable to create these images mostly because a certain degree of factual accuracy is required for them to be useful.

    – “Map to nearest planet with life” requires knowledge about the universe and biology, which DALL-E does not possess
    – “A chart of the stock market up until 2050” requires knowledge about the stock market and the ability to predict the future. This graph does not appear to randomly generated, at as some point the stock displayed (which may be an aggregate index like the Dow Jones Industrial Average or NASDAQ) crashes, and there is a note right next to it.
    – “Me right before I die” also requires you to predict the future
    – “The animal I’m thinking of” requires the AI to be able to read the user’s mind

The 4th person (possibly the developer, or someone else) says that it doesn’t work that way. However, in a bait and switch, he reveals that DALLE-2 can actually do all of those things, it just isn’t a voice activated technology (voice activated technology would be much easier to implement than giving an AI knowledge about the universe and the ability to predict the future).
